EXERCISE for Week Two: VOICE AS INFLUENCED BY AUDIENCE
A. Tell a story in your own voice(s) about something fictional
that happened to "you," that is, "you" as a first person narrator.
Tell it separately to three of these people:
Your mother
A judge or policeman
Your therapist
Your best friend
A child
Your boss
A newspaper reporter
A nosey neighbor
B. Now have one of those people tell the same story to somebody
else. This person will be recounting the story that you told, so
that we get that person’s impressions of you in the telling.
